Sneak Peek

Yesterday we had our eagerly-anticipated 20 week scan for Moo #3. For the uninitiated, it is a diagnostic scan which checks out baby's organs and measurements as well as keeping an eye out for any visible physical abnormalities. An added bonus for those who want a sneak peek is that it is often an opportunity to find out the sex of the baby. We found out with the MissyMoos and had been looking forward to doing so again as our "halfway reward", as I like to call it.

So yesterday morning hubby and I, along with MissyMoos 1 & 2, made a family morning of it. MissyMoo1 (4) took a bit of notice but MissyMoo2 (23 months) had much more fun spilling her sultanas all over the floor and trying to pull my socks off while I was lying on the examination table. Happily for us, things look fine with baby. Not so happily, whether the next Moo is a Missy or a Mister is not yet clear. Although I know I should have felt happy that things were okay with bub, I left the ultrasound feeling incredibly flat at baby's little secret. Having two girls and being pregnant again, people often ask if we're trying for a boy. But I actually don't mind in the slightest whether my baby is a son or a daughter - I just wanted to know! Later that afternoon, I just felt ... sad. I'm blaming hormones for the disproportionate emotional reaction ... completely. But I just never thought I'd hear the sentence: "I think it's a labia, but it could be a scrotum."

I suppose time will tell...

Tumblr post #2 (Dec 2010): Cool Stuff I Get To Do Because I Have Kids:Trampoline

As an adult, I think it's safe to say that unless you were involved in some kind of sporting activity involving somersaulting, you would not own a trampoline. Unless, of course, you own said jumping device as trustee for your children.

Having kids has given me the opportunity to own a trampoline, something I didn't have in my own backyard as a child. I always thought it was just something for the kids to play on, until one day I saw it, just standing there, daring me. A smile began to form on my face, breaking out from the monotonous seriousness of adulthood.

I don't quite know what happened, but the next thing I knew, I was looking down at my yard, unsteady on my feet from the instability of the object on which I was standing. Then it started.

I was jumping, feeling taller and freer than I had in a long time. I could see way down the street. I waved at the neighbour's dog and set it off barking. I jumped as high as I could (which, incidentally, wasn't all that high).

It was exhilarating ... and surprisingly good exercise. With one small act, I flung the wight of reponsibility off my shoulders, bounced away my burdens and JUST HAD FUN!

I thoroughly recommend a go on the trampoline. Thanks kids, I couldn't have done it without you xx

Tumblr post # 1 (Dec 2010): Cool Stuff I Get To Do Because I Have Kids

Every now and then I do something really fun or silly (or both)and it strikes me that, had it not been for my children I would not have had the opportunity (or excuse) to do it. So my intention is to have a series of posts devoted to the cool stuff my kids give me the opportunity to do. As well as motivating me to keep up with the cool stuff, I'm hoping these posts can be a light at the end of the tunnel, to help draw me through the not-so-cool stuff...

Blogging Revival

Saying this blog has been dormant would be an understatement. As a result of starting part-time work and the frustrations associated with typing blog posts on an iPhone, my blogging fell by the wayside. I briefly flirted with tumblr, as it had an iPhone application, but that fling didn't last long.

Now, for reasons unknown, the blog bug has returned. If technology allows, I will transfer the tumblr posts over to this blog and then, let the up-to-date blogging begin! (I talk big, let's just see how it goes...)
